ESCALATORS UP 1997

ESCALATORS UP 1997 is an analog photo collage made out of 1-hour prints from color negatives. I had created it back then as a promotional piece for my portfolio. The images here are of the escalator bank from the World Trade Center PATH station, destroyed during the 9/11 attacks. The unwitting, prescient design of people heading heavenward has haunted me ever since the attacks, especially since it is possible that any one of these people, likely headed to work at WTC that day, might have perished in the attacks a few years later.

KRAZE I 1989

KRAZE I 1989 Is a portrait of Richard Jean Laurent of the seminal 80’s House band Kraze. I did four separate photo-illustrative portraits of each band member for Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine in 1989. Photographed with color negative film and printed on Chromogenic paper, in a land before computers and Photoshop. I created effects in the enlarging /printing process using stencils to expose areas separately, and treated them with filters, motion, and effects screens such as broken glass, etc. All while listening to vinyl record mixes on cassette tapes played on a boom box…

PORCUPINE PRESS 1993  is a sample greeting card printed by our card company Porcupine Press, started by myself and partner John Hluchyj.  It is an analog photo collage created from images shot on B&W film and printed on color paper. This is one of 12 designs for the New York Stories line. Graphic design & logos by Paula Kelly.
