TREE STUDY 1987
TREE STUDY 1987

TREE STUDY 1987  is an analog photo collage, made from 35MM color film, shot with long exposures using a flash, to create a frozen/motion effect. The strips of film are straight out of the camera, taped onto a glass negative carrier, and enlarged onto color paper. Exposed with my trusty Olympus OM-1, which I had specially filed out by the esteemed Marty Forscher of Professional Camera Repair in NYC, to eliminate the spacing in between frames.

BREADCRUMB TRAIL 2017
BREADCRUMB TRAIL 2017

BREADCRUMB TRAIL  2017  was put together from images shot yesterday with iPhone 6 in pano mode, using camera movement during exposure.  The jittery bits are a result of the camera software trying to make sense out of what I’m doing.  Some call it a mistake.  I say, find the glitch and exploit!  I blurred the overlap areas for a continuous feel.

SAINT PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL 2005
SAINT PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL 2005

SAINT PATRICK’S CATHEDRAL  2005  Is a digital photo collage shot with the Canon G6 camera, using long exposures and flash, and incorporating camera movement. While putting the collage sections together, I blurred the edges of some sections in Photoshop. To make it more… believable.

CONEY 2017
CONEY 2017

CONEY 2017 is a digital photo collage, shot on assignment last month at Coney Island and appearing in this month’s Family Circle magazine. This style of collage has been the backbone of my assignment photo collage work developed in the 90’s. The spherical shape has its roots in earlier work such as Boat, Cape Cod from 1981. Is it art? I’m not sure that question ever mattered.

PARK AVE 2007
PARK AVE 2007

Indecisive Moments – PARK AVE  2007 is an early digital sketch collage of Park Avenue looking North @ 39th Street.  Shot using long exposure times with a Canon G6, incorporating movement to suggest painterly gestures and motion. All part of the ongoing battle against the tyranny of the single frame / decisive moment mentality, to create something with a more expansive sense of time, among other things.

BLOWN A WISH

BLOWN A WISH 2017 is a collage of mobile phone panoramic strips. There is some  camera movement to create the feeling of motion and fluidity. Every time I feel like I’ve come full circle with panoramic collage, I take another trip around the circle….
